Frequently Asked Questions
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credit hours attempted. Each grade (A, B, C, etc.) is assigned a numerical point value. Our calculator automatically multiplies your credits by the grade value and averages it out.
What is considered a good GPA?
A good GPA depends on your level of education and goals. Generally, a 3.0 (B average) is considered good and meets minimum requirements for many programs. A 3.5 to 4.0 is excellent and highly competitive for top colleges and scholarships.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
An unweighted GPA is measured on a scale of 0 to 4.0, regardless of class difficulty. A weighted GPA takes class difficulty into account, meaning an A in an Honors or AP class might be worth 4.5 or 5.0 points instead of the standard 4.0.
